First Day of F.A.T. (Alternative Fashion Week~Toronto)
Last night was the first official night of F.A.T. in Toronto, and I had the privilege of attending both the shows as well as hang out back stage, help Rachel Sin and Naanafya of Garde Del Avante Jewellery with fittings and a run-through...not bad for a rainy Thursday in the city (I am really starting to like Thursdays-rain or shine!) Anyway, it was a great event, completely laid-back and unpretentious...I got to meet some cool people including a Slovak designer named Lubica, see some great shows, ogle some interesting art and listen to some very funky music...most importantly though, I was able to get dolled up, spend time with my good friends Rachel and Bogdan and have some laughs all the while enjoying and celebrating my favourite "F" word~Fashion! (what were you thinking?) Oh yeah, and I also managed to take some photos...enjoy...
PS: this is literally only a small taste of what went on, for more photos of the event check out my flickr site here...

Royal Tea Partea with Jeanne Beker

Last Thursday I was able to attend a wonderful event put on by St. Laurent Centre, hosted by Canadian fashion icon, Jeanne Beker, at the Museum of Nature...needless to say I had a lovely time...drank some tea, nibbled on some yummy finger sandwiches, mingled with some good friends and got to meet a fashion icon...not bad for a thursday afternoon...however, instead of babbling on all about the event, I think I will let some of the photos do the talking for me...enjoy...

The Arc Hotel Photo-shoot
A few weeks ago I was asked by Rania (the wardrobe stylist) to help style a shoot for the ARC Hotel with her this past Saturday (The Arc Hotel is a gorgeous boutique hotel here in the city)...Despite the fact that that was also the weekend of OFW, I could not resist...being in a room full of beautiful clothes and beautiful people~common, who could!
I thought, it would be a great opportunity for me to take some more behind-the-scenes photos like I did here and here, but alas the day was much too busy for any tom-foolery...I did manage to snap a few shots amid the busy schedule, which hopefully depict the overall atmosphere and vibe of the day...I also included some amazing photos of the 3 days photographed by Audrey GC Photographies (who's photos can also be seen here and here)...Overall a pretty neat experience, even if it was stressful sometimes to be in charge of an entire room of clothes and people (not to mention a bit of torture knowing that none of the beautiful garments will be making their way home with you)...

Some shout-outs:

Ottawa Fashion Week
The following is review of Ottawa Fashion Week which occurred March 18th- 20th, 2011...
Rachel Sin had these T-shirts made for her models (and one for me!) which literally made my month...I could not stop smiling every time I saw one...

...my husband and Rachel's boyfriend (Bogdan) wore them all night!
I was only able to catch one day of the action due to some other random things I had to do, but I am glad I at least got to see the Rachel Sin and !Nu.i show both of which were really great...Here are snapshots of the evening, including some behind the scenes photos by Elliot Mak, and candid shots by Ming Wu, both of which are amazing!

(all following photos by Love K)
I haven't seen this designer before...but I was impressed with the simplicity of the designs...this was a nice surprise for me, to see something utterly wearable but also unique and interesting on the runway, that translates into the cold winter months we have here in the city...
Very simple designs and cuts...uber lady-like with flowy skirts and subdued colours...I loved the skirt with the embodied owl...just sayin'...
Per usual, Rachel did not disappoint...edgy, yet sophisticated...classy but not understated (wow that actually rhymes)....I am pretty much in love with most pieces particularly the black leather jacket, the backless dress with huge pockets and the gold blazer...this little blogger is saving up...
Just saw a !Nu.i show in Montreal and it really enjoyed it...this one was just as good, but with a little more metallic flair!
Hanging out...

Myself and Jusytna (of chicshop)

So that's that...a fun filled day full of fashion and friends...what better way to spend a Saturday? Without snow!!!

OFW Media Launch Party

Last night was the Media Launch Party for Ottawa Fashion Week which officially kick-starts the fashion-filled weekend here in the city...

(photo courtesy of Ming Wu photography)

Myself, Justyna (of Chicshop) and Julie (of popchampagne) headed out to Lobby, which housed the event and were happy to see and be re-united with some friendly faces...the venue was packed with OFW organizers, designers, photographers, bloggers and fashion lovers alike, so there was plenty of style to ogle and plenty of fashion-chat to catch up on...I had my trusty camera in tow, per usual, so here are some of the snapshots of the evening from yours truly...
Justyna (chicshop), Julie (popchampagne) and I heading out...

Because most of the time I was behind the camera as opposed to in front of it, I did not get a chance to get any photos of myself with friends...but Ming Wu (of Ming Wu Photos) was kind enough to let me post some of his amazing photographs of the event...the following are his photos, and I highly recommend you visit his site (here) as the man is a pretty awesome shooter...with a camera that is...
The proverbial "click-off" ~ I am a huge dork what can I say?

That's it from me for today...must reserve energy for writing that darn comp, getting gussied up for the first night of OFW and the rest of the weekend which promises to be an extremely busy, yet fun, one...hope you all have a very happy friday and a lovely weekend...

Rachel Sin: OFW Official Press Release

I have been a busy little bee the last few days, hence my blogosphere absence for which I apologize, but alas sometimes the real world calls and the rest of the fun stuff needs to be pushed to the way-side...I was at a conference for the past few days that was organized by the school which I attend and as hectic, busy and (sometimes) stressful as it was, I do have to say it was also a blast...plus it's always lovely to hear other people's ideas, mingle with one's peers and groan about the next hurdle to jump through in the land of academia...but enough about work, I am now back and super excited about today's post since I get to write about one of my favourite things...
That being said I was delighted to get the following from Rachel Sin in my inbox after my long absence from the interweb:

In my crazy conference haze I completely forgot to get excited about upcoming Ottawa Fashion Week where my favourite designer (yes, that would be Rachel) will be showcasing her new line (and it's AMAZING!!!)...I was even more excited when she informed me that the behind-the-scenes photos I did for her a few weeks back (seen here) were chosen to be part of her official press release (seen below)...let me tell you, that little tidbit put a huge smile on this little blogger's face...

To add to the excitement, Rachel Sin's new line is now available online @ www.rachelsin.com...and I am already mentally/anxiously picking out my new dress for OFW, which happens in a week, but I won't reveal which one it's going to be...you will just have to come to the event and see for yourself...

For those of you in the city, OFW will be happening this following weekend, starting Friday and continuing on until Sunday, March 21st, at the National Art Gallery of Canada, which needless to say, is a pretty stunning venue...the designer line-up is available online and can be accessed here...so ladies, slip into those dresses, blow the winter dust off those stilettos and I hope to see you there...

Splendid Events: Colourbomb Trunk Show @ Hush
Last night I had the pleasure of dressing up, hopping in the car with two good girlfriends and 'zooming' over to Hush for Spledind Events' Colourbomb trunk show...the evening was filled with lots of lovely ladies, Hush fashion, pretty jewelery by Blushbeads and some tremendously yummy mini cupcakes by Geek Sweets not to mention make-up make-overs by the gorgeous, Melody of MelandJez...Trust me when I say, that in this cold cold March, the event provided a lovely oasis from the snow and bitter wind...Plus I got to hang out with two of my favourite bloggers in the city: Justyna of Chicshop and Julie of Popchampagne and hanging out with good friends is alwaysa lovely thing! Some of Ottawa's other style bloggers made it out as well including Julia of The Fashion Keeper, Ashelle of pink~beautiful~love and Emily of Tinfoilstiaras...while the store was bustling with people and the changing rooms were packed to capacity, I had the chance to snap some photos of the evening...enjoy...

AChannel Morning: Fashion Show for Funds

...anyone in Ottawa this upcoming Sunday, I encourage you all to come out in support of "Fashion For Funds" an event organized and hosted by a student here in the city, Kate Reeves...so this seems like your standard, charity fashion event right? Wrong, because here is the kicker...Kate is only 12 YEARS OLD!!! How amazing is that, that this itty-bitty little lady, with a huge vision managed to pull together a great event for an even greater cause! All proceeds benefit the Roger's House in Ottawa (description below) and Canuck Place in British Columbia...The event will take place on Sunday at 1pm @ the Glebe Community Centre and will feature designers: Rachel Sin, Amber Watkins, Jana Hanzel, Shweta Wahi, and Rubin Kooner...so if you are in the city, please come out for an afternoon of fun and fashion all for a great cause...
I also had the pleasure of meeting Kate in person this morning while representing Rachel Sin's new line on AChannel Morning (video below)...Kate is absolutely lovely, and despite being young, she is a true inspiration...Enjoy...

Roger's House:
"Following the death of former assistant coach Roger Neilson in 2004, a legacy was created in his honour by the Ottawa Senators Foundation . This was achieved in collaboration with The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, the Ontario Ministries of Health and Children and Youth Services . The result is a free standing eight bed palliative care facility on the grounds of CHEO for children with progressive life limiting illness. The overwhelming contribution and support of the Ottawa Community made the dream of Roger's House a reality. Roger's House opened its doors to its first guest and family on May 15th 2006, within two years of the idea's conception."

Montreal Fashion Week

...the lights dim...the murmurs turn to soft whispers...the music pumps, almost is if coursing through your own bloodstream...the energy from the audience is palatable...and then quiet...a light goes on and the show begins...
If I had to use only one word to describe Montreal Fashion Week it would be "intense"...not only the designers' collections or the sheer whirlwind pace of the few days, but also the overall vibe that permeated the atmosphere...from the moment popchampagne, the wardrobe stylist and myself, stepped into the showrooms, it was a very intense "GO~GO~GO"...thank goodness that I thrive in such conditions, otherwise I am not sure if I, or my poor Alexander McQueen-clad feet, would have been able to keep up...but I am ever-so happy that we did, and we managed to have a hell of a good time as well...I am keeping this post text-light, mostly because there are so many photos to go through but also because fashion shows, being the visual spectacles that they are, are much better described through photos...so I leave you with some of my favourite shots of the event...enjoy...

The End...for now...

***

...last night I spent the majority of the night baking muffins for a school fundraiser on Friday...and I DON'T bake really most of my baking endeavours end in tears, smoke and general disaster, but I rolled up my sleeves, got my husband to supervise and they actually came out decent...not the most glamourous of activities to be doing before heading out to Montreal Fashion Week, but hey a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, right? Either way, I am super excited to be going this morning along with my girl Julie of Popchampagne and Rania of the Wardrobe Stylist...the show promises to be exciting indeed (is that even the right adjective for describing 'fashion'?) The Montreal Gazzette claims:

The week unfolds mainly at Bonsecours Market after Mariouche Gagne launches the shows Monday afternoon with a preview of her Harricana line aboard the Bota Bota floating spa in the Old Port. There will be about two dozen runway shows, as well as Le Showroom, in Bonsecours Market, where about 60 brands will be on display for buyers and media.

This season, Le Showroom invites the public to shop the racks, Wednesday (Feb. 9) only, from noon to 9 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door. Fashion lovers can also buy last-minute tickets to shows, when available, at www.lavitrine.com.They're $25.
If you prefer to watch on your computer or mobile device, Ustream will play selected shows every night at www.ustream.tv/channel/smm20 or embedded below. Schedules, blogs, tweets and more can be found at www.montrealfashionweek.ca.
And The Gazette will have blog reports daily at The Constant Shopper, at montrealgazette.com/shopper and multimedia - photos and videos - on our Style web page, montrealgazette.com/style
Read more here...

So there you have it folks...that's where I'll be for the next couple of days, along with my camera and my thirst (hunger? whatever...) for fashion...until the next time, you all have a wonderful week...

EF Launch Party @ Flock, Ottawa

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the launch of a new publication, EF Magazine, here in the city. EF promises to be a great new addition to Ottawa, not to mention an environmentally responsible one at that! EF is an online publication that is designed to promote ethical and sustainable fashion. I included a brief description below from the EF website:

"Ef Magazine is here to show you that sustainable is stylish. And what is sustainable fashion? It’s a movement within the fashion industry to minimize its environmental and social impact. From growing pesticide-free cotton, to fair labour, sustainable fashion is steadily changing the face of the world’s third largest polluter.

On Ef, you’ll find engaging articles on eco-fashion designers and industry leaders with green on their minds. Browse our ever-expanding shopping guides to discover some of the most creative styles and accessories and where to buy them."

The party was hosted by FLOCK Boutique in Westeboro, which is an adorable little shop that carries locally produced apparel, jewellery, accessories and other knick-knacks.  Filled with yummy tapas, even yummier wine, great fashion, entertainment and even better friends, the event was an overall great success...Although, outside the cold wind blew and the pavements were blanketed with snow, inside the stilettos ruled and the atmosphere was warm and friendly...Winter's cold and dreary grip seemed to be forgotten at least for a moment...I had a blast hanging out with fellow bloggers, Julie of Popchampagne and Justyna of Chichichic as well as Sherry and Kyla (see photos below) all of whom are pretty amazing ladies...I had my trusty camera in tow, but Kyla took most of the photos of the evening , for which I am thankful...that's it for now...enjoy...
