winners...losers...speeches...tears & DRESSES...

Yes, I am talking about the Oscars...I usually don't post much about celebrities and such, but since I love dresses as much as the next girl, and because the Academy Awards are pretty much 10% about who won what and 90% about who wore what and with whom, I figured I should do an Oscar post...So after searching a plethora of "Top 10 Oscar Dresses" lists I have settled on my very own "Top 10" version...my choices are probably a little unconventional (by most top ten standards that I came across) but hey, it's what I like, right? Below are 10 of my favourite Oscar dresses to date...
Audrey Hepburn (1954)
Sarah Jessica Parker (2009)
Natalie Portman (2005)
Marion Cotillard (2008)
Jessica Alba (2006)
Kate Winslet (2002)
Anna Henrick (2010)
Gisele Bundchen (2009)
Nicole Kidman (2007)
Sienna Miller (2004)
I am curious to see what will come up this year in the Best/Worst dressed department, but because I don't have TV and am not a huge fan of the Oscars (gasp!) I will most likely get the memo much later than most...that being said, if anyone wants to share what their favourite dresses were at this year's Academy Awards (or in the past), message or email me with your choices, I would love to hear about them! In the mean time, this Sunday, sit back, grab your girlfriends and a bucket of popcorn and enjoy the show...

Simply Salmon...

It's been a while since I last posted a yummy recipe, so I figured it's about time to cook/bake something good to share with you all...this time though, I am afraid I cannot take all the credit as most of the baking was done by my husband. Given that this meal involved an oven and I must currently abide by a strict oven mandate of "supervision only" since the last time I almost...well nevermind...either way, I highly recommend this super simple salmon recipe (how is that for alliteration!)...Enjoy...
Ingredients~ Salmon fillet
1/4 cup butter melted
1/4 cup fresh dill chopped
1 lemon halved
Salt and Pepper to taste

How to:
1. melt butter in sauce pan and combine with dill and lemon salt and pepper.
2. once your sauce is done, braise your salmon fillet with lightly with a brush.
3. pre-heat the oven to 400F.
4. wrap salmon in tin foil and place in oven.
5. bake to preference (this depends on the thickness of the fillet)
6. once salmon is baked, unwrap it from the foil and let it cool slightly.
Ingredients~Yogurt Sauce
1/2 cup plain Balkan-style yogurt
3 garlic cloves finely chopped
1/4 cup fresh dill chopped
PC lemon herb seasoning
Salt and Pepper to taste
1. combine all the ingredients in a bowl.
2. add herbs to taste and let it sit for a few minutes.
Serve your salmon with salad, a fresh piece of baguette or fresh bread and a glass of white wine...simple and delicious...that's all...enjoy...

...fashion...art...art...fashion...

"Dress is a form of visual art, a creation of images with the visible self as its medium..."
A gorgeous quote by Anne Hollander (art historian and fashion theorist) and one that resonates with today's post...being the avid trendland reader that I am, I am always excited by the daily posts that come into my inbox, particularly when they deal with fashion illustrations... Mostly because I wish I knew how to draw and paint, but also because I find them a constant form of inspiration...recently, trendland featured fashion illustrations by Julie Verhoeven, a London-based artist who also studied fashion and worked with John Galliano...her ties to fashion are quite obvious in her work, as she has collaborated with numerous designers and companies, including Louis Vuitton and H&M among others...I was particularly taken aback by Verhoeven's designs because I just finished reading a book by Anne Hollander entitled, "Seeing Through Clothes" in which she claims that clothes are and must be seen and studied as art is seen and studied, "not primarily as cultural by-products or personal expressions but as connective links in a tradition of image-making" (xvi)...whether I agree with this sentiment or not, is a topic better left discussed in my comprehensive exam (sigh) but ever since Verhoeven's illustrations showed up in my inbox, I can't help but link art and fashion and fashion and art together in a much stronger connective bond than I ever have in the past...
Below are some of my favourite of Julie Verhoeven's creations...Enjoy...
This tea set (above) reminds me of Alice In Wonderland..something the Mad Hatter would surely drink from...absolutely gorgeous...
