friends...and such...

Warning: sentimental post ahead...
I spent the last few days in Guelph, Ontario, not because I particularly like the city or anything, (I mean it's cute and all but...) the real reason I was there was because my best friend just returned from South Korea via South East Asia for 4 days (before heading to yet another exotic destination) and I really wanted to see her while she was here...anyway, the experience really made me think about the notion of friendship and the importance of the people in our lives that we call our "friends"...
The concept of friendship is kind of amazing when you think about it...certain people come into your lives and while you were fine while you didn't know about their existence, their sudden presence in your life changes you at your very core...not unlike a lover, but yet so different at the same time...you count on these people, you trust them and they you, and your life is completely incomplete without them...
...to me, a good friend is someone you can be completely honest with and someone you can be a complete idiot with (a common occurrence from this blogger :-) someone who will not judge you but who will also tell you, you are being silly when needed...I know, this sounds utterly romanticized, because lets get real, friends are also people we can have epic fights with, but for the most part, true friends are all of the mentioned above and also those who can withstand the inevitable occasional turbulence...these kind of friends don't come along very often...but when they do it's special and worth cherishing...
... as sentimental as all of this is, I feel like especially now, that my very good friend is going away for another six months (which, by the way, I am both extremely sad about and happy for her about), I feel that I should write something~anything to let all of the amazing people in my life know how much they are cherished and how much they mean to me...the older I get...sigh... the more I feel like these kind of friendships are harder and harder to find...plus especially since the last year was a particularly difficult one for me (a story best left for another post entirely), my friends (both new and old) are the ones who deserve the credit for helping me survive it...and making me laugh along the way...
That being said, this post is dedicated to all of the good, great and amazing friends in my life...know that you are very much appreciated and in some cases very much missed...and in all cases, very much loved...
One last super cheesy sentiment...promise it will be my last for today: when I was a child, I won a bookmark for a speech competition (or maybe it was for keeping quiet in class...no matter...) anyway it said, "Friends are angels who lift you up when your own wings have trouble remembering how to fly" (I know super dorky but quite appropriate given the topic...) I don't have the bookmark anymore, however for some reason I never forgot the quote...I guess all of the wonderful people in my life serve as remainders why...this post is for you...
Love K

Awe, such a sweet post! And so true. I never thought deeply about friendship but you describe it beautifully.

"you're the wind beneath my wings" (I see your cheesy bookmark and raise you Bette Midler). But seriously, you're awesome (and the wind beneath my wings.)

Katarina, thank you so much for coming down and visiting me and for this beautiful entry. I am so sorry for the ridiculous delay in writing this post but I have finally just figured out a way to get some extra time on the internet.

YOU are inspirational and I hope you always remember that. All of us who have been blessed by your presence in our lives are truly lucky people for more reasons than I could possibly list (and this time I am being honest and not referring to the giant ego part we discussed in Guelph lol) and I am thankful every day to have you in my life albeit from so far away.

Thank YOU for being you (now I am referring to the wedding thank you card which you adorably transformed) and I cannot wait to see you in a few months!

Thinking of you always!
