Some more fashion inspiration from Japan...

I strongly believe (and always have) that fashion is an expression of the self. As a semiotician, I think that signs are the fundamentals of any culture and like all other sign systems, fashion is one that clearly and creatively connotes one's persona. I think this is why I am so fascinated by the Japanese fashion scene. To me, it is a clear example of how far people go in creating a self-image through fashion (albeit extreme in some cases). As I recently said to my husband (after a debate as to why I am so "into" fashion). It is an art---to me, fashion is the use of different textiles, materials, ink, metals etc. on/for your body that in the end come together to create an artistic form...my point: check out the cool pictures I found on my new favorite website: http://www.japanesestreets.com/ and be as inspired as I was...

Japanese Fashion Inspiration

I realize that a lot of Japanese Fashion is a bit extreme for most tastes, but you have to admit that the creativity and uniqueness that is evident within the fashion scene of places such as Harajuku, Shibuya and Ginza (all areas in Tokyo), is pretty awe-inspiring. To get to my point, I was browsing a really great site today at work (http://www.japanesestreets.com ) and had to share some of my favorite images that I found. Enjoy and check out the site if you're thristy for more...(although I will probably post more soon...can't seem to get enough :-)

Michelle's party-hardy!

So, this weekend my favorite girl on Jeju had a party, and even though I was completely sober for the occassion (thanks to a pesky cold) I had the time of my life. In turn, this little post is a shout-out (and a thank you) to my Girl M, who is not only a generous and fabulous host but also a beautifully gorgeous friend as well. Thanks Miska!

Some more cool spaces...

I love this space! It belongs to designer and DJ duo vanessa giovacchini and marylouise pels. The pictures are of their LA home and I must say that I absolutely love the vibrancy and the creativity and the overall atmosphere of the place. Enjoy...

Vogue

I took this out of the online December Vogue issue. The article was called "recession spending". It caught my eye, mostly because of the word recession which seems to be popping up everywhere and always seems to bring me the chills. However, I thought this image (and the article) lend a more positive (fashionable?) view on the issue...at least something right? Candlesticks...just because...

I realize this is a little strange but I LOVE these candlesticks. They are so kitchy and borderline tacky (okay maybe they crossed over to the land of tackiness but still...) Once again I have The Selby to thank. (http://www.theselby.com/10_5_08_Nico_francesca/pages/image27.html).
